Thanksgiving Hash Run 1441 - 24 Nov 08

Hash Run #1441 will be our Thanksgiving Run. The run will be hosted by Mr. Whippy and family in Lotopa (see map).

True to the spirit of Thanksgiving, where we come together to celebrate the harvest and give thanks, this is a "Pot Luck" run where each Hasher brings a dish/bowl of food to share. Please note that there will be no BBQ grill at the run; we are giving our Hash cooks the night off.

The Hash will be providing a yummy roast turkey.

Looking forward to seeing you there, On On!

Shafter's Day - Hash Run 1440

17 November 2008 – Shafter was bid farewell on Monday in what Godfather described as a memorial “befitting a king.” Take a look for yourself. We have described Shafter’s day / Hash Run #1440 via more than 100 photos with detailed captions. Please click here to view the photo album. It includes Shafter's Memorial Service, Burial Service, and Hash Run. Nearly all Hashers contributed to making this day a special one. Shafter would be proud.

Many thanks to Flo and Shafter’s family. Our hearts, thoughts, and prayers are with you.

Rule 69-B

September 2008 - Rule 69-B, a Shafter favorite in the Apia Hash House Harriers bylaws, expressly states, "Thou shall not argue with the GM." Some Hashers never learn.

Donations for Shafter's Memorial

There have been a few questions regarding how Hashers can help with Shafter's Memorial. At this point, the best way is to attend and participate in the Memorial (see this post). If you can't make it or would like to do more, please donate a little to help with Hash's expenses for Shafter's Memorial. Every little donation really helps. On On.
  • Donations are optional and anonymous. They will pay for Hash's contribution for the grave. The remainder will be presented to the family as a lump sum from the Apia Hash House Harriers.
  • Donations can be dropped-off with:
    o Eveready / Karaoke @ Adria's Cakes OR
o Snake / Fang @ The Snake Pit OR
o Princess of Darkness / Lewinski @ Yacht Club / On the Rocks

Shafter Farewell Hash Run 1440 - 17 Nov 08

Hash Run #1440 will be held at the Yacht Club immediately following Shafter's burial service at the Vailele Cemetery.

The run will start EARLY. Our best guess is that it will start at about 3PM.

This is a very special Hash Run where we will bid our long time Hasher, Hash Monk, and GM Shafter (Drafter) farewell. Please make an effort to join us for Shafter's final Hash Run.

Mismanagement and the Shafter family encourages Hashers to attend Shafter's services held earlier in the day (see previous post for details).

Shafter's Memorial Service - 17 Nov 08

Just received confirmation from the GM Eveready last night. Hash's participation in Shafter's memorial services are set. Here's the current plan:
  • The GM, Eveready (752-3338) is Hash's point of contact with Shafter's family.
  • Shafter's service will be held on Mon 17 Nov 08.
  • The schedule:
10am - Short Prayer Service @ Ligaliga Funeral Service
(followed by) Memorial Service @ Yacht Club
(followed by) Burial Service @ Vailele Cemetery
(followed by) Hash Run 1440 @ Yacht Club
  • Hash is preparing the grave and providing the tent over it for the burial.
  • Hash dress for the services is black and white.
  • Hash will sing the International Hash Anthem at the Memorial Service.
  • Hash will do a proper Hash Run at the Yacht Club followed by a Hash Circle right after the burial service (so the run will be EARLY at about 3pm)

Homework - International Hash Hymn

As per his family's request, the Apia Hash House Harriers will be bidding Shafter farewell the way Shafter lived, in his style, singing the International Hash Hymn; gestures and all.

Your homework, is to learn the song so that we can properly bid our good friend Shafter goodbye at his service on Monday.

International Hash Hymn
(Melody - Swing Low, Sweet Chariot)

Chorus:
Swing low, sweet chariot,
Coming for to carry me home,
Swing low, sweet chariot,
Coming for to carry me home.

Verse 1:
I looked over Jordan and what did I see,
Coming for to carry me home,
A band of angels coming after me,
Coming for to carry me home.

(Chorus)

Verse 2:
If you get there before I do,
Coming for to carry me home,
Tell all my friends that I'm coming too,
Coming for to carry me home.

(Chorus x 2)

R.I.P. Shafter

Talofa AHHH,
As most of you are aware, our beloved Shafter / GM / Hash Monk passed away last night at his home in Vaoala. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this time of sorrow. We will keep AHHH members posted as to what AHHH will do to help with the funeral.

What moves through us is a silence, a quiet sadness, a longing for one more day, one more word, one more touch, we may not understand why you left this earth so soon, or why you left before we were ready to say good-bye, but little by little, we begin to remember not just that you died, but that you lived. And that your life gave us memories too beautiful to forget.

Shafter, you will be sorely missed.

AHHH Members.

Hash Run 1439 (10-11-08)

Talofa AHHH,
Crime / Thunder (not sure where that name came from) has offered to host next weeks run from his home at Levili. Directions are pretty simple, its at the back entrance to Apia Park. If you have trouble finding the place, check the map and when you get to that back road that goes to Apia Park, look for the paper or the other Hashers...If all else, fails, call 7500767.

Thanks again to Snake for hosting the Melbourne Cup Run. There were some interesting hats on display last night, and it was good to see a good crowd regardless of the weather.
See you all next week and stay tuned for some Hash Trash...

Wear Your Hats!

Hey Hashers, don't forget to wear your hats for the Melbourne Cup Hash Run downtown at the Snake Pit. Just bring any old hat, and join the crew for a nice run, some coconuts, and a few cold ones. 'Am sure the GM will reward those who dawn the best hats, and punish those who forget.

Also, this is a 1st Monday of the Month BYO Food run, so bring your own food. Hash will supply the BBQ grill and drinks.
